Dell introduces its first laptop with Android apps

Dell’s XPS Googlebook is its first laptop running the Android-based Googlebook OS, and it relies exclusively on Android apps.

The starting $999.99 configuration pairs a Snapdragon X Elite with 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and a 512GB SSD.

For developers and technically minded readers, the product’s app environment and limited connectivity—two USB-C ports, with no headphone jack—are key details to examine.

Features and prices

The base model has a Snapdragon processor, 16 gigabytes of memory, and 512 gigabytes of storage. Dell also has more expensive options: the model with 32 gigabytes of memory costs $1.599,99, while the version with double the storage at 1 terabyte goes for $1.799,99.

The laptop has a champagne gold aluminum body, is half an inch thick, and weighs 2,2 pounds. The touchscreen display is 13,4 inches in size, has a resolution of 2.560 by 1.600 pixels, brightness up to 500 nits, and a refresh rate of 30 to 120 hertz.

Connectivity and battery

In terms of connectivity, the laptop only offers two USB-C ports and no headphone jack. For wireless communication, it supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, while the built-in camera is 2 megapixels and supports 1080p video.

In tests, the computer's battery lasted longer than the MacBook Air and exceeded Dell's promised 16 hours of continuous video playback. In speed and performance tests, the new laptop was compared to similar models from Acer, HP, and Lenovo.
