Fitbit announced the Fitbit Edge fitness tracker at $179.99, featuring a 1.34-inch AMOLED touch screen, integrated GPS, and a full suite of health monitoring sensors.
Operating across Android and iOS through the Google Health app, the device launches on October 27 with a one-week battery life.
The device features a 1,34-inch AMOLED touchscreen, physical button, and is 11,5mm thick. It is dust and water resistant, with the ability to be used underwater up to 164 feet.
Sensors and autonomy
The Fitbit Edge includes a host of health and fitness sensors, including heart rate, blood oxygen, electrocardiogram, skin temperature, and a built-in GPS location system.
The device's battery lasts about a week on a single charge, and five minutes of charging is enough for a day of use. In addition, the battery is replaceable.
Connectivity and application
The bracelet works with Android and iOS devices through the free Google Health app. A subscription version of the app is also available for $9,99 per month or $99,99 per year, after a three-month free trial, which includes an AI digital assistant.
Fitbit Air update
Google also announced an update for the lower-cost Fitbit Air, which doesn't have a display and costs $99. The update brings new health features and improved automatic activity tracking.
Health alerts notify users of high or low heart rates, unusual rhythms, loss of pulse, or breathing problems. The subscription app also tracks blood pressure, insulin resistance, and sleep patterns. Automatic exercise tracking now covers more than 100 activities with improved accuracy.
