Microsoft executives discuss performance improvements for Windows 11 on 8GB RAM following recent memory efficiency updates, including optimized caching and compression algorithms, alongside potential Task Manager tweaks.
According to company executives, users shouldn't be alarmed when they see Task Manager showing that memory is almost full as soon as they turn on their computer. That's because the system intelligently preloads data to open applications faster, while automatically freeing up space when the user requests it. Microsoft is even considering changes to the tool to more clearly indicate when a computer is really being strained.
The changes brought by the October 2026 update
The improvements became available to all PCs with the October 2026 update. Microsoft's internal testing shows that the operating system is up to 20% faster in response and up to 40% faster when the user has multiple applications open at the same time.
The company fixed management issues, made the web browser and office programs use less memory, and stopped automatically loading small information windows on the start screen on these computers, saving significant space. At the same time, the in-memory data compression system now works more efficiently, giving the user the feeling of having about two extra gigabytes at their disposal.
Collaboration with manufacturers and daily use
In addition to changes to the system itself, Microsoft is working with computer manufacturers to reduce unnecessary pre-installed programs that eat up memory from the start, as well as the space taken up by the device's basic software.
