The KDE Project has released Plasma 6.8.2, featuring targeted maintenance fixes for KWin, Wayland compositing, multi-GPU synchronization, and DRM color pipelines.
The update also resolves desktop icon visibility issues, Kickoff launcher scrolling, and PipeWire stream dimensions.
Most of the changes concern the part that manages windows and graphics on the screen. Among other things, synchronization problems on computers with multiple graphics cards have been fixed, image data recognition has been improved, and difficulties in color management have been addressed. The system also now correctly maintains the keyboard layout and the operation of special convenience keys has been corrected.
Appearance and functionality fixes
On the desktop, the new version fixes an issue that could cause icons to disappear. Improvements were made to taskbar management, the main application menu, desktop switching, and task management tools.
Several changes also apply to wallpapers. Animated images now work properly as repeating patterns, per-activity wallpapers are cropped correctly, and image packs load properly. Additionally, color selection has been fixed when using a solid wallpaper.
Improvements to connections and applications
Users connecting remotely to other computers will see improvements in session startup and screen size management. Fixes have also been made to sound and video management, installing hardware updates through the app center, the power manager, and notifications.
