Anduril announced its upcoming BlueChip laptop line featuring Qualcomm chips, with founder Palmer Luckey discussing the potential integration of flat phased-array satellite antennas and solar panels into the device shell to enable direct satellite broadband connectivity.
On Tuesday, his military company, Anduril, announced a new line of BlueChip laptops that will be made in the United States and will be released next year, using Qualcomm processors. In a related video, Luckey said that the tops of these computers could incorporate solar panels and special flat antennas used in satellite networks to transmit data.
Who will use them?
The Starlink series is initially aimed at government agencies, the military, and public safety organizations, so that military users can stay connected in the field. It is noted that Starlink is widely used for communications and operations in Ukraine.
Other well-known manufacturers, such as Dell and Apple, have also filed patent designs for incorporating similar antennas into their own machines. Dell's patent from 2024 suggests an antenna panel that unfolds from the lid to face the sky, while Apple's from 2023 suggests placing the antenna inside the base of the computer.
The difficulties of the project
However, pairing a laptop with such an antenna may cause overheating, drain the battery quickly, add weight, and increase cost.
