PCMag: Five web hosting services under $10 per month

Looking for budget-friendly web hosting?

PCMag evaluates five providers offering regular pricing under $10 a month, comparing support, uptime guarantees, and self-managed versus managed options.

To choose the services, PCMag compared the regular annual prices, not the initial offers. It tested the packages, created websites, and checked customer support and contract fees.

Hosting is the service that stores a website's files and makes them available to visitors. Many affordable packages also include other features, such as email, tools for a blog or online store, and file sharing. Before choosing, it's a good idea to check what the package includes and whether customer support is available 24/7, via chat or phone.

How often the website remains available is also important. If it is not open, visitors cannot see its products or services. Some providers promise that the website will be up 99% of the time, while others promise 100%, except for scheduled maintenance work.

There are packages where the customer takes on the management, maintenance, and security of the website. This gives them more control, but requires more technical knowledge. In managed hosting, the company takes on these tasks, in exchange for a higher subscription fee and less control from the customer. PCMag reports that it is difficult to find managed hosting for under $120 per year and suggests considering BlueHost and Hostinger.

For a simple presentation website, there is also the option of a website builder, without a separate hosting package. Some offer free packages, which usually feature the company's branding. With many services, you can pay for your own web address and remove that branding.
