Plasma 6.6.7 available with fixes for applications and displays

KDE has released Plasma 6.6.7 as the first maintenance update for its new Long-Term Support series.

The release bundles three months of fixes, focusing primarily on KWin window management stability, Wayland surface handling, and display management improvements.

Although last July, version 6.6.6 was announced as the last planned release of fixes, that changed in August. KDE, in collaboration with Kubuntu Focus and Techpaladin Software, announced the “Bullet-Proof KDE” initiative, which extends maintenance of the series for three years.

This move mainly concerns the Kubuntu 26.04 operating system and aims to offer stability, continuous bug fixes, and security updates to users who prefer a stable work environment.

What the new update fixes

Version 6.6.7 brings together three months of fixes, with a focus on the software that manages windows and the screen on the computer.

Among other things, issues that caused applications to unexpectedly close when taking screenshots and recording video have been resolved. Issues related to graphics card resets, keyboard behavior when a key is held down and the screen is locked, and display management issues have also been fixed.

Improvements to applications and tools

Changes were also made to the central software management program Discover, which fixed an error that occurred when users closed the application while background tasks were running.

On the desktop, the main application launch menu has been improved, files can be moved to grouped icons on the taskbar, and they appear in languages that read from right to left. The clipboard manager now properly restores images when users reset their history, and the digital clock has been fixed with font and resizing issues.

Other smaller improvements include sound previews, display settings on startup, brightness control behavior, and image refresh in media viewer widgets. Finally, the way programs handle screen recording and viewing sessions has been improved.

The new fixes are expected to reach users soon through the official distribution channels of the supported systems.
