Record growth in fiber optics in Greece, according to Dimitris Papastergiou

An overview of national telecommunications progress in Greece, highlighting fiber-optic network expansion, the deployment of hundreds of thousands of broadband vouchers through state programs, and infrastructure upgrades affecting hundreds of thousands of subscribers.

According to the minister, the Gigabit Voucher and Smart Readiness programs had a decisive contribution to this development. Specifically, 306.469 vouchers were made available through the Gigabit Voucher for high-speed connections and 64.214 vouchers through the Smart Readiness for the creation of broadband infrastructure in apartment buildings.

At the same time, Telekom's recent decision to double or even triple, at no additional cost, internet connection speeds for approximately 700.000 households and businesses that already have fiber optic service is expected to contribute positively to the further development of the market.

Mr. Papastergiou expresses the assessment that this specific initiative could be followed by other companies in the sector, strengthening competition for the benefit of consumers. “Our bet remains the country’s digital progress,” he emphasizes, underlining that the goal is for more and more citizens and businesses to utilize fast and reliable connections in their daily lives and work.
