Transmission 4.1.4 is now available, delivering maintenance fixes for its open-source BitTorrent client.
This release addresses download reliability bugs, hardens the RPC torrent-add method, and fixes a macOS security issue requiring local write access while bumping the minimum macOS requirement to 12.
In terms of security, the new version fixes a problem in the Mac app. However, in order for someone to exploit it, prior access to the computer and specifically to the user's configuration files is required, which means it cannot be done remotely. At the same time, the minimum required version of Apple's operating system is now macOS 12.
Fixes to downloads and operation
The update also brings several fixes to download management. Among other things, it resolves an issue that appeared in previous versions that could cause incorrect handling of zero-byte files, leading to loss of download progress. It also fixes a rare issue that prevented downloads from web sources from completing.
Changes have also been made to the cooperation between the different versions of the program, as well as the management of speed limits, which now work correctly for uploads and downloads. The update also includes fixes for issues that left the program running in the background without responding when closing, as well as improvements to the appearance and operation of menus for Linux and Windows users.
