I launched a SaaS 3 weeks ago. Since then I've written 50+ blog posts, cross-posted to Dev.to, and started seeing Google traffic trickle in.
The only reason I can do this as a solo founder is automation.
Here's the exact system — no theory, just workflow.
The Problem
Every indie hacker knows they need SEO content. Most don't do it because:
- Writing a good post takes 3-5 hours
- Results take 3-6 months
- Freelance writers cost $200-500/post
- Generic AI content sounds robotic and doesn't rank
My Automation Stack
Manual System (Works, Costs $0)
- Find keyword opportunities in Google Search Console + Keyword Planner
- Use AI to draft an outline — headings, key points, questions to answer
- Write from the outline — add real examples from your experience
- Run through an EEAT checklist — real numbers? specific tools? actual stories?
- Cross-post to Dev.to with canonical URL back to your site
- Publish once a week. Same day. No exceptions.
This takes about 1 hour per post instead of 3-5.
What Actually Moves the Needle
After 3 weeks of data:
- Dev.to drove more traffic in week 1 than Google Search
- Comparison pages rank fastest ("vs ChatGPT" pages got Google impressions within days)
- Google indexes about 30% of pages in week 1. The rest take 2-4 weeks
- One post answering a real question is worth ten generic posts
What NOT to Do
- Don't publish 50 posts in a week then nothing for months. Consistency beats bursts.
- Don't target keywords you can't win. Pick low-hanging fruit.
- Don't use generic AI content. Add your story, your data, your voice.
- Don't neglect on-page SEO. Meta descriptions, URL slugs, headings — free wins.
The 3-Month Plan
- Week 1: 3 cornerstone posts (your best content)
- Weeks 2-4: 1 post/week, cross-post everywhere
- Month 2: 2 posts/week, start building backlinks
- Month 3: 2 posts/week + double down on what's working
Most indie hackers quit after 2 months because "SEO doesn't work." They wrote 8 posts and expected to rank #1.
SEO is slow until it's fast. Month 3 feels like nothing. Month 4 is when compounding kicks in. Month 6 is when you wonder why you didn't start sooner.
I built a tool called SEO Spark that automates this entire workflow — pick a keyword, get an SEO-optimized blog post in 60 seconds. But the system works without it too.
What's your SEO workflow? I'm still learning and would love to hear what works for others.
