Question

Why am I no longer receiving notifications on my Huawei watch after upgrading to HarmonyOS 6.0?

Short Answer

[If Huawei/Android messages are not being pushed, please check whether the following conditions are met. You can ask the user to try the following settings to see if message pushing is restored to normal.]

(1) Check whether the Bluetooth icon in the status bar of the watch is blue. // If the Huawei Health app is disconnected from the watch, messages will not be pushed.

(2) Check whether the message has been received in the notification panel of the phone. // Only messages received in the phone's notification panel will be pushed to the watch.

(3) Check whether the notification permission for the corresponding app in the Huawei Health app is enabled. Check whether the message collaboration switch is turned on. // Go to Huawei Health app > Device details > Notifications > Enable the message notification permission for the corresponding app.

(4) Swipe up on the main watch face to check whether the message has been received in the message center. // If the watch is "not worn" or "Do Not Disturb" or "Sleep mode" is enabled, messages will be silently pushed (no vibration, no display on the screen, and directly saved in the message center).

If using an Apple phone:

Please focus on the following:

  1. On the iOS phone, go to Settings > Bluetooth: Find the connected band, click the small "i" next to it, and check whether "Share system notifications" is enabled.

  2. On the iOS phone, go to Settings > Notifications > corresponding app: Display preview. If it is set to "Never," messages will not be pushed to the watch.

[Messages not being received due to iOS phone settings]

  1. On the iOS phone, go to Settings > Notifications > corresponding app: (1) Display preview. If it is set to "Never," messages will not be pushed to the watch. (2) On the iOS phone, go to Settings > Notifications > corresponding app: "Notification Center" needs to be selected (it is selected by default). Otherwise, messages will not be pushed to the watch.

  2. On the iOS phone, go to Settings > Bluetooth: Find the connected band, click the small "i" next to it, and check whether "Share system notifications" is enabled.

  3. Check whether the status bar icon on the watch is in a normal connected state? (The Bluetooth status icon should not be gray with a slash.)

  4. Check whether the message has been received in the status bar of the phone. // Only messages received in the phone's status bar will be pushed to the watch.

  5. Check whether the message has been received in the message center? // If the watch is "not worn" or "Do Not Disturb" or "Sleep mode" is enabled, messages will be silently pushed (no vibration, no display on the screen, and directly saved in the message center).

  6. Check whether the notification permission is enabled? // Go to Huawei Health app > Devices > Click on the connected watch > Notifications > Enable the message notification permission for the corresponding app.

Note: After you enable "Requires Face ID" for an app, the display preview switch for that app will be automatically set to "Never." If you still want the watch to receive notifications from this app, please set the display preview to "Always."

Applicable Scenarios

  • Bluetooth connection between the watch and phone is disconnected.
  • App notification permissions on the phone are disabled.
  • Notification settings in the Huawei Health app are disabled.
  • The watch is in Do Not Disturb / Sleep mode or not being worn.
  • On iOS, “Display Preview” or “Share System Notifications” is disabled.
