7 Google Project Genie Alternatives, Including Free and Open-Source World Models
As of October 29, 2026, the best Project Genie alternatives are World Labs Marble for persistent 3D worlds, Odyssey and Decart Oasis 3 for real-time world models you can call by API, and Matrix-Game 4.0, HY-World, LingBot-World and NVIDIA Cosmos 3 if you want open weights on your own GPU. Google DeepMind's Genie 4, announced on October 27, 2026, is a research preview for trusted testers, and Project Genie itself needs a Google AI Ultra plan.
What is the best Project Genie alternative?
The best Project Genie alternative depends on what you need from it:
- A free hosted world you can explore now: World Labs Marble (free plan, up to 4 world generations).
- An API for streaming, interactive worlds: Odyssey (Odyssey-2 Pro API) or Decart Oasis 3 ($0.02 per second, free starter credits).
- Open weights you can run and modify: Matrix-Game 4.0, HY-World 1.5 (WorldPlay) or LingBot-World.
- Robotics and driving simulation: NVIDIA Cosmos 3 or Decart Oasis 3.
One candidate didn't make the list. Dynamics Lab's Mirage was a popular pick in 2025, but its site now redirects to a parked "lander" page, so we couldn't verify it's still alive.

Hosted Project Genie alternatives with an API
These run in the cloud, so you don't need a GPU.
1. World Labs Marble
Marble builds persistent, editable 3D worlds from a text prompt, one or more images, a video, a 360 panorama or a coarse 3D layout. You can edit, expand and export them as Gaussian splats or meshes. Genie streams video frames; Marble hands you a world file that stays put.
Marble's docs list four plans. The Free plan covers text, single image and panorama input with up to 4 world generations. Paid tiers add editing, export and commercial rights (Pro and up). Whether the Free plan asks for a card isn't stated in the docs.
The World API runs on prepaid credits: buy credits, then call POST /marble/v1/worlds:generate with a WLT-Api-Key header.
2. Odyssey
Odyssey builds foundation world models for robots, cars, drones and games. Odyssey-3 was announced on September 15, 2026, with a public demo.
The developer API currently serves Odyssey-2 Pro, an action-conditioned model that "begins generating and streaming video instantly, producing a new frame of video every 50 milliseconds." New prompts change the stream in place, with a 60-minute limit per connection. You sign up for a key on the Odyssey developer site and use the @odysseyml/odyssey SDK. The docs don't publish prices or a free tier.
3. Decart Oasis 3
Decart launched Oasis 3 on June 10, 2026 as an interactive world model for physical AI, starting with autonomous vehicles. It keeps synchronized multi-camera views of one world and, per Decart, responds in under 200 ms.
The Decart pricing page lists oasis-3-preview at $0.02 per second of active generation, so a 60-second session costs $1.20. New accounts "receive free credits so you can test the API before paying." Decart doesn't say how many.
Project Genie open source alternatives
If you want a Project Genie open source alternative, these four publish weights you can download, run and fine-tune. You'll need an NVIDIA GPU, and each license has its own limits.
4. Matrix-Game 4.0 (Skywork AI)
Matrix-Game 4.0 is the freshest release here: October 15, 2026. It ships inference code, a browser demo and weights for three playable games (Medieval Castle, Ancient Egypt and City Racing). Skywork reports up to 67 FPS on an RTX 5080 and 58 FPS on an RTX 5070 Ti at 864x480, steady state, excluding video I/O. The repo is MIT-licensed and the Hugging Face weights list Apache-2.0.
5. HY-World 1.5 and 2.0 (Tencent Hunyuan)
HY-World comes in two flavors. HY-World 1.5 (WorldPlay), released December 17, 2025, is a streaming video model you steer with keyboard and mouse, generating at 24 FPS with long-term geometric consistency.
HY-World 2.0, from April 16, 2026, takes the opposite route: it outputs meshes and 3D Gaussian splats you can import into Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine or Isaac Sim. Note the license: the HY-World 2.0 community license doesn't apply in the European Union, the United Kingdom or South Korea.
6. LingBot-World (Robbyant)
LingBot-World launched in January 2026 under Apache-2.0 with minute-level memory and real-time interaction at 16 frames per second with under 1 second of latency. LingBot-World-Infinity, shipped July 9, 2026, with a distilled real-time variant the team says drives 720p streams at 60 fps. Infinity is CC BY-NC-SA 4.0: non-commercial only. You can try the real-time version on Reactor without installing anything.
7. NVIDIA Cosmos 3
NVIDIA Cosmos 3, released in May 2026, is built for robots and vehicles rather than games. It comes in three sizes: Super (64B), Nano (16B) and Edge (4B, added in July 2026 for on-device real-time use). October 2026 added interactive simulation checkpoints, including a closed-loop driving simulator. Weights are on Hugging Face under the OpenMDW 1.1 license, and there's a browser demo.
Free alternative to Project Genie: what $0 gets you
There's no free way into Project Genie: Google limits it to Google AI Ultra subscribers aged 18 and over. Our guide to whether Project Genie is free covers the plans and the Genie 4 waitlist form.
The $0 routes we verified today:
- Marble Free plan: up to 4 hosted world generations.
-
Decart free credits: enough to test
oasis-3-preview; amount not published. - Self-hosted open weights: Matrix-Game 4.0, HY-World, LingBot-World and Cosmos 3 cost nothing to download. You pay for the GPU.
Project Genie vs Unity and Roblox
Project Genie isn't a game engine, and it isn't trying to replace Unity or Roblox. Google pitches Genie 4 to game developers as a way to go "from an initial idea to an explorable prototype in seconds," before any engine code exists.
| Project Genie / world models | Unity / Roblox Studio | |
|---|---|---|
| Input | Text prompt, image, keyboard | Assets, scripts, scenes |
| Output | Generated frames you explore | A game you build and ship |
| Consistency | Google says coherent over short sessions; details drift over longer runs | Deterministic: what you build stays built |
| Best for | Mood, layout and feel tests in minutes | Shipping, multiplayer, monetization |
The practical workflow is both. Sketch a world in Project Genie or Matrix-Game, then rebuild what works in an engine. If you want to skip the rebuild, HY-World 2.0 and Marble export real 3D assets you can open in Unity.
Test a world-model API with Apidog CLI
Marble's World API returns an operation_id you poll until the world is ready, a contract that breaks quietly. Let your coding agent check it with Apidog CLI.
Install the CLI and the agent skill:
npm install -g apidog-cli@latest
apidog login --with-token <YOUR_TOKEN>
npx -y skills add https://apidog.com # pick your agent when prompted
Then give Claude Code, Codex or Cursor one [REDACTED PROMPT]
Read the World Labs World API reference for
POST /marble/v1/worlds:generate and GET /marble/v1/operations/{operation_id}.
Write an OpenAPI 3.1 file for those two endpoints with the WLT-Api-Key header,
import it into Apidog project , then create a test case that generates a
world with model marble-1.0-draft from a text prompt, asserts status 200 and a
non-empty operation_id, and polls the operation until done is true. Use the
{{WLT_API_KEY}} variable from the worldlabs environment. Run it and summarize
any failures.
The agent imports the spec, checks the payload shape instead of guessing it, then creates and runs the case:
bash
apidog import --project --format openapi --file ./world-api.yaml
apidog cli-schema get test-case-create
apidog cli-schema validate test-case-create --file case.json
apidog test-case create --project --file case.json
apidog run --test-case --project -e -r cli,json
The prompt uses Marble 1.0 Draft because the docs price it at 150 credits per generation against 1,500 for Marble 1.1, so each test run stays cheap. Add `--timeout-request [n]` to fail fast when a poll hangs. Switch `-r cli, json` to `-r junit` and the same run drops into CI; our [Apidog CLI CI/CD guide](http://apidog.com/blog/apidog-cli-ci-cd-pipeline?utm_source=dev.to&utm_medium=wanda&utm_content=n8n-post-automation) shows the pipeline, and [Apidog CLI in Claude Code](http://apidog.com/blog/apidog-cli-in-claude-code?utm_source=dev.to&utm_medium=wanda&utm_content=n8n-post-automation) covers the agent setup. Apidog's Free plan covers up to 4 users.
