When I evaluate AI video models, most comparisons I see are unfair in a way that's easy to miss: different scenes, different prompts, different lengths. You end up comparing the prompt, not the model.
Here's the method I settled on, and what it showed when I ran it on ByteDance's Seedance 2.5.
The method: one scene, four renders
Pick one scene that stresses everything at once. I use an elderly man reading in an old-book store, sunlight through the window. Faces, hands, paper, wood grain, hair, every surface the models usually smear.
Then run it with:
- One baseline render from a standard AI video model
- Three renders from the model you're evaluating, with only the texture/style instruction changed (soft, natural, film grain)
Same scene, same length, same camera idea. The only variable is the model and the texture prompt.
What the Seedance 2.5 run showed
30-second one-take: the baseline model stitches visible cuts around the 5-second marks. Seedance 2.5 held one continuous take. No seams.
Texture: three prompts gave three genuinely different looks, clean/soft, documentary/natural, 35mm grain. The grain render stayed stable frame to frame. Baseline models usually shimmer the grain all over the place.
Faces and hands: fine detail (paper, yarn, pores) survived instead of smoothing to plastic. The "oily" look is mostly gone.
Limits of the method
It tests texture and continuity, not everything. If you care about per-shot realism, add a close-up shot to the scene. If you care about prompt robustness, run each prompt twice and count how often the output stays on brief.
Also worth knowing: this model is prompt-sensitive. Get the texture words wrong and it produces a generic clip like any other. And the consistency benefits show up when you actually feed it references (up to 50 multimodal), not on bare text prompts.
