Add Tailwind V2 into React in 5 minutes

What is React?

React is JavaScript library for building user interfaces.

What is Tailwind?

Tailwindcss is a utility-first CSS framework packed with classes that can be composed to build any design, directly in your markup.

Requirements

  • Nodejs version 8.10 or Higher.

Getting Started

Today we are going to add tailwind css in our React application without using npm.

Installation

Using create-react-app we are going to generate a new react project.

npx create-react-app react-tailwind
cd react-tailwind
npm start

Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

Add Tailwindcss into Our react App

Inside the public folder, locate the file index.html.
and add the Tailwindcss CDN link https://unpkg.com/tailwindcss@^2/dist/tailwind.min.css.

It will looks as it under.

 <!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
  <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8" />
    <link rel="icon" href="%PUBLIC_URL%/favicon.ico" />
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1" />
    <meta name="theme-color" content="#000000" />
    <meta
      name="description"
      content="Web site created using create-react-app"
    />
    <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="%PUBLIC_URL%/logo192.png" />
    <link href="https://unpkg.com/tailwindcss@^2/dist/tailwind.min.css" rel="stylesheet">
    <!--
      manifest.json provides metadata used when your web app is installed on a
      user's mobile device or desktop. See https://developers.google.com/web/fundamentals/web-app-manifest/
    -->
    <link rel="manifest" href="%PUBLIC_URL%/manifest.json" />
    <!--
      Notice the use of %PUBLIC_URL% in the tags above.
      It will be replaced with the URL of the `public` folder during the build.
      Only files inside the `public` folder can be referenced from the HTML.

      Unlike "/favicon.ico" or "favicon.ico", "%PUBLIC_URL%/favicon.ico" will
      work correctly both with client-side routing and a non-root public URL.
      Learn how to configure a non-root public URL by running `npm run build`.
    -->
    <title>React App</title>
  </head>
  <body>
    <noscript>You need to enable JavaScript to run this app.</noscript>
    <div id="root"></div>
    <!--
      This HTML file is a template.
      If you open it directly in the browser, you will see an empty page.

      You can add webfonts, meta tags, or analytics to this file.
      The build step will place the bundled scripts into the <body> tag.

      To begin the development, run `npm start` or `yarn start`.
      To create a production bundle, use `npm run build` or `yarn build`.
    -->
  </body>
</html>

Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

Congratulations.
We have successfully add Tailwindcss inside our React App.

Congratulations for your post! it's simple and direct to the point, but I think that approach wouldn't be too viable for production-ready apps, because of the Tailwind's purge functionality, that reduces a lot of the final css to be downloaded by the user's browser, and importing from a CDN gets all the whole lib styling, and that's heavy :0
