Hi! I'm Harsh Rao, though some people know me as Ash.
This is the first blog I've written outside of competitive programming editorials. I want to build a habit of documenting my experiments, projects, and experiences, not because I'm an expert, but because I genuinely enjoy learning and exploring. If nothing else, I hope the process keeps me curious and amused.
As a computer scientist, I'm fascinated by an endless number of ideas. Some I explore only at the surface, while others I dive into for months. So far I've dabbled in game development, AR/VR, competitive programming, a bit of Web3, machine learning, and LLMs. Every time I learn something new, I realize how much more there is to discover.
I don't want this blog to become another collection of AI-generated explanations or textbook summaries that you can find anywhere online. Instead, I want it to be a documented journey. A collection of experiments, mistakes, lessons, and small wins from someone who's simply excited about computer science. Think of it as following a curious developer who enjoys building things, asking questions, and occasionally getting lost down interesting rabbit holes.
Right now, I'm especially interested in databases, particularly Apache Iceberg, data lake technologies, and database internals. I'm currently reading Database Internals by Alex Petrov (enjoying it so far :) ), contributing to open-source projects, and trying to understand how modern data systems actually work beneath the surface. You can expect plenty of blogs about those topics, along with whatever else catches my curiosity along the way.
