The beginning

So first off this is a blog post that is required for graduation from the bootcamp I am attending. I have never posted a blog before so I'm not so sure what I am doing. ｢(ﾟﾍﾟ)

This is my first week in the bootcamp and I can already tell this is going to be an adventure. The hours are from 9 AM to 6 PM. It makes for a long day of hard work and study.

I have been in the IT industry for some time now. I have done a lot. Everything from running and terminating cat5, building computers, computer repair, installing servers into racks. I have setup domains, domain controllers, domain policies and domain users. I've setup networks, wireless networks, network security. I have done enterprise level backup and data storage. I have even done some technical stuff outside if IT. I've installed burglar alarms, fire alarms, security cameras, NVRs and DVRs. I have also installed and programmed access control systems. But I have never had any actual experience coding. So this is all very knew to me. I mean I have played around with python before. So I know what it looks like and know just a bit about it. But otherwise this is a learning experience from the get go. I am excited and a bit overwhelmed about this. I am going into debt by taking out some student loans in order to attend this bootcamp. An uneasy feeling.

So I will be doing some more blogs about my experience here at the bootcamp. And I hope they will help you make a decision if you are thinking abut attending one.

First impressions

My initial impression is that this a lot! I do feel a bit overwhelmed. But it is a new subject that I have never studied. And I have been slapped in the face with it. This first week has been tough. I arrive in the morning and right away I jump on my laptop and begin to study. And it continues all day long. It is a lot to take in. So much new information coming at me. It is a lot to process. By the time I go home I am exhausted. It is very fast paced. But in the end I think it will be worth it.

Why

Well first and fore most I would have to say it is to advance my career. Which I think is something we can all agree on. My last job I was doing tech support for Panasonic for their video recording software and NVRs. It wasn't a bad job, it paid well and had great benefits. But I did feel like I was stuck. There didn't seem to be much room for upward movement. Which I was looking to do. Honestly I felt like my talents were being wasted. It all felt like a giant waste of my time. And wasting my time is my one pet peeve. I did not like it at all. I had to do something. I firmly believe that if you are not happy with your situation then you should change it. So that is what I am doing. Making changes.

The future

The future is murky. What can I say. Like I said at the beginning this is an adventure. Will I be successful? I couldn't tell you. Will I be able to find a good job making a lot of money? I hope so! The only thing I can really do or say is that I am all in and I will give it my all. And hopefully it all works out. What else can we do but try. There is no telling where I will end up but I am along for the ride. I will adapt and survive. Even if this doesn't work out I will figure it out. Well kind of. I don't think there is such a thing as having things figured out. All we can really do is survive. Take things day by day and make the best out of it.

Final thoughts

So in the end all I can really say is that I will try to enjoy my time here. Enjoy all the time that I have with these people. The instructors, staff, and other students. As my first blog as a coding bootcamp student there are still a lot of unknowns. I will be posting more updates about my experience and what I will be working on. So please keep reading. Or don't.
