Building InboxOro: A Modern Temporary Email Platform for Users and Developers

How I’m building a temporary email platform with instant inboxes, OTP detection, APIs, custom domains, SMTP sandboxes, and email infrastructure.

Temporary email looks simple from the outside. Building it is a different story.

Generate an email address.

Receive a message.

Read it.

Delete it.

It sounds straightforward.

But once you start building a real temporary email platform, you quickly discover that there is much more involved — email delivery, DNS, domain configuration, authentication, message processing, attachments, inbox expiration, APIs, security, and more.

That is what led me to build InboxOro.

What Is InboxOro?

InboxOro is a temporary email and email infrastructure platform designed for both everyday users and developers.

The main idea is simple:

Temporary Email, Made Simple.

Users can instantly generate a temporary email address and start receiving emails without using their primary email address.

The public temporary-email experience doesn't require an account.

For users who need more management and developer functionality, InboxOro also provides Free and Pro accounts.

The InboxOro Dashboard

The dashboard is designed to keep important information accessible without making temporary email complicated.

It provides an overview of active inboxes, received emails, API usage, aliases, recent inboxes, and activity.

The interface is designed to work across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

The goal is to make the workflow straightforward:

Generate → Receive → Inspect → Manage

Temporary Email Features

The core inbox experience includes features such as:

Instant temporary email generation
Temporary inboxes
Automatic inbox refresh
OTP detection
Verification email support
Email attachments
Email source viewing
Email deletion
Automatic email deletion
Copy email address
QR code support
Free system domains

These features are available as part of the temporary-email experience, while account plans provide additional limits and management capabilities.

Why Developers Can Use It

Temporary email isn't only useful for people who want a disposable address.

It's also useful when developing and testing applications.

For example, developers may need to test:

Registration flows
Email verification
OTP delivery
Password reset emails
Notification emails
Automated email workflows
Email parsing
Different user accounts during development

Instead of repeatedly using personal email addresses during testing, temporary inboxes can provide a cleaner development workflow.

Developer Infrastructure

InboxOro also goes beyond the inbox itself.

Logged-in users can access API functionality, while Pro users receive additional developer features.

The platform includes:

API access
API keys
SMTP sandboxes
Custom domains
MX verification
SPF verification
DKIM verification
DMARC verification
Webhooks for Pro users
Usage analytics
Email activity

The purpose is to make temporary email useful not only through a browser, but also as part of development and testing workflows.

Free and Pro Plans

InboxOro has a Free plan for users who need additional account-based functionality.

Free users get:

2 active addresses/inboxes
Up to 24-hour inbox expiration
1 custom domain
5 email aliases
100 API requests per day
60 API requests per minute
1 API key
1 SMTP sandbox

Pro users get higher limits and additional functionality, including:

Unlimited inbox expiration
365 days of email history
Unlimited email aliases
5 API keys
5 SMTP sandboxes
Webhooks
Advanced analytics
Advanced email activity
Ad-free experience
The Interesting Part: Email Infrastructure

One of the biggest lessons from building InboxOro is that temporary email is not simply an inbox UI.

A large part of the work happens behind the interface.

You need to think about:

DNS

Domains need to be configured correctly so email can reach the right infrastructure.

MX Records

Mail exchange records determine where incoming email should be delivered.

SPF, DKIM, and DMARC

Email authentication becomes important when working with real email infrastructure and custom domains.

Message Processing

Incoming messages need to be processed correctly so users can view content, attachments, headers, and other information.

Expiration

Temporary inboxes need lifecycle management so they don't remain active indefinitely.

API Limits

Developer access needs appropriate request limits and API-key management.

Security

Temporary email systems need to consider inbox isolation, abuse prevention, access control, and safe handling of email content.

What looks like a simple temporary inbox therefore becomes a much larger engineering problem.

Why I Built It

I wanted to build something that combines the simplicity people expect from temporary email with features that developers can actually use.

The experience should be simple for someone who just needs an email address for a few minutes.

At the same time, the platform should provide more advanced functionality for people who need APIs, domains, SMTP testing, or email infrastructure.

That's the direction behind InboxOro.

What's Next?

InboxOro is still evolving.

The focus is on improving the temporary-email experience while continuing to build useful infrastructure for developers and users who need temporary email workflows.

There is a lot more to explore when you're building an email platform, and I'm looking forward to sharing more about the technical side of the project.
