These two points are critically relevant in my opinion:

"...senior developer on the team help new juniors set up their development environment and act as a buddy..."

• This gives the new team member the feeling of being taken seriously and being part of the team.

"A bad team spirit will deplete morale, so try to avoid doing this."

• If that happens then, at least in my experience, the team will most likely collapse. This must be avoided.
