I recently took my first step into open-source development by contributing to DevLinks 01.
For my first contribution, I worked on a small issue involving a typo in the main heading. The word βWecomeβ needed to be corrected to βWelcomeβ in src/components/Header.jsx.
Although the change was small, it gave me an opportunity to understand how contributing to an existing codebase works. I worked on a separate branch, made the change, and submitted a pull request rather than directly modifying the main branch.
One thing I learned from this experience is that open-source contributions aren't always about building big features. Even small fixes matter because they improve the quality and usability of a project. I also got more familiar with the Git workflow and the importance of keeping changes focused so they are easier to review.
AI was useful as a learning aid during my development workflow, but I learned that suggestions should never be accepted blindly. It's important to inspect the actual code changes and verify the result instead of assuming that an answer is correct.
My first contribution has encouraged me to explore more repositories, understand issues before jumping into solutions, and become more confident about contributing to projects maintained by other developers.
I'm looking forward to making more contributions, learning from code reviews, and improving with every pull request!
