"Have a deep understanding of what you are building and why"

This paragraph is spot on! I think that engineers and companies hiring them often overlook how important it is to actually understand, and better still, use the product you are building. Especially junior developers, tend to obsess too much with the newest frameworks and paradigms and forget that their job is building value for the end user.

From my experience "product engineers" (as I tend to call them), bring tremendous value to any team.
