The Home Run Derby Is Monday. Your Kid's Mental Game Is Tuesday.

Your kid will watch the Home Run Derby. They'll see exit velos on the screen and think: that's what I need. They'll swing harder at Tuesday's practice. The coach will say something about mechanics. Your kid will ignore it because they're thinking about launch angle.

Here's what actually matters: the moment after a bad call when they want to throw their bat. The inning when the opposing dugout won't stop chirping. The car ride home after they go 0-for-4, and you're trying to say something helpful but everything sounds like a lie.

The Home Run Derby doesn't teach you how to stay composed when the umpire blows one. It doesn't build the mental resilience to refocus after a strikeout with runners in scoring position. It doesn't help you manage the noise—external or internal.

Your kid doesn't need exit velocity lessons from Netflix. They need to understand how confidence actually works after failure. How focus survives chaos. How to separate their performance from their worth.

That's the real work. That's Tuesday's lesson.
