I kept seeing people praise photo based calorie trackers, so I tested the category pretty hard.
Cal AI is slick, but I kept running into the same three issues:
- the price felt high for something I wanted to use every day
- I wanted more than just quick calorie guesses
- accuracy got shaky on mixed meals and homemade food
That pushed me to build MetricSync.
What I wanted was simple:
- cheaper than Cal AI
- more features for actual daily use
- better accuracy on real meals, not just clean product shots
- a low friction way to try it before paying
That is what MetricSync is aiming at now.
If you are building in consumer health, I think this niche is still wide open because most products optimize for the demo, not the boring daily habit.
MetricSync is live here: https://www.metricsync.download
There is a 3 day free trial if you want to see how it compares in your own workflow.
If you are building or using nutrition apps, I would genuinely love to hear what still feels broken in this category.
