thanks for your story! I found it too familiar unfortunately. I used to have a coworker (who eventually got his own team and then got fired) but he was bad-bad, like putting tests and production code on the same file bad and he swore he was the only one who knew shit. Using his white privilege powers he got promoted to "team lead" and he got his own team, basically he got other people to do his job and a raise while at it, once it was delivery time, he got the guillotine, nobody was/is sad he left :).
