"Can I see the last three jobs you finished — and can I call those homeowners?"

Not references they hand-picked from three years ago. The last three. This week. Last week. The job they wrapped up yesterday.

A real contractor says yes immediately. He's proud of his work. His clients are happy. He wants you to call them.

A bad contractor stumbles. He has excuses. "Those clients are private." "I signed an NDA." "Let me get permission first."

Ask yourself: does this person look like they're about to do the work, or does this person look like they're about to sell me the work and disappear?
