Smart Homeowners Do This Before Signing Anything

And here's what I know: the contractor didn't trick her because he was clever. He tricked her because she didn't know the three questions that make a bad contractor reveal himself in the first five minutes.

Most homeowners walk into a contractor meeting hoping to be liked. They want the contractor to think they're reasonable, easy to work with, not difficult. So they nod along. They don't push back. They don't ask the uncomfortable questions because they're afraid of seeming rude or suspicious.

That instinct — the desire to be liked — is exactly what bad contractors count on.

2. "Who exactly will be on my job every day?"

3. "What's your payment schedule — and why?"
