How a small side feature turned into 10,000+ hashtags generated every month
We built Kamero as an AI-powered photo sharing platform for events. Face recognition, instant photo delivery, real-time camera-to-cloud sync — the serious, technical stuff.
Then we added a wedding hashtag generator as a free tool. A side project. Something fun.
It's now the most visited free tool on our platform. Here's why, and what we learned.
The Problem We Noticed
Every week, couples planning their wedding would ask us: "What hashtag should we use for our event gallery?"
They'd spend hours brainstorming, Googling "wedding hashtag ideas," texting friends for opinions, and still end up with something generic like #SharmaWedding2026.
The hashtag mattered because:
- Guests use it on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook
- It appears on wedding signage and photo booths
- It becomes the searchable identifier for all wedding content
- It's the first thing people see on the invitation
A bad hashtag gets ignored. A great one gets used by every guest at the wedding.
What We Built
We built an AI-powered generator that creates unique, personalized wedding hashtags based on:
- Bride and groom names — combinations, abbreviations, puns
- Wedding style — elegant, funny, Bollywood-inspired, destination
- Cultural context — Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Western
- Event type — works for engagement, sangeet, haldi, mehendi, bachelorette, anniversary
The tool generates 15–25 unique hashtags per generation. Users can regenerate unlimited times. No signup, no daily caps, no paywall.

Why It Took Off
Three things made this tool grow organically:
1. It solves a real, time-sensitive problem
Couples planning weddings are stressed and time-poor. They don't want to spend 2 hours brainstorming hashtags. They want 20 options in 10 seconds, pick one, and move on.
2. No friction
No signup. No login. No "enter your email to see results." You land on the page, type two names, and get hashtags. That's it.
Most competing tools either:
- Limit you to 3 generations per day
- Require an account
- Show you blurred results behind a paywall
We made it genuinely free with no limits. That trust factor drives word-of-mouth.
3. Indian wedding culture needs more than one hashtag
Western weddings are typically one day, one hashtag. Indian weddings are a week-long festival — sangeet, haldi, mehendi, ceremony, reception. Each function needs its own tag.
Our generator understands this. It creates hashtag families, not just single tags:
#SamKaSangeet-
#HarshaKiHaldi #PreetiWedsPranav
Nobody else was doing this properly.
What We Learned About Building Free Tools for SEO
This hashtag generator taught us something valuable about product-led growth:
Free tools that solve real problems generate more organic traffic than any blog post.
Here's the math:
- "Wedding hashtag generator" gets ~4,900 searches/month
- A blog post about hashtag ideas might rank for 200–500 searches
- A functional tool that people link to, share, and bookmark earns natural backlinks
The tool page now ranks for 30+ keyword variations and drives consistent traffic to our main platform. Users who discover Kamero through the hashtag tool often come back when they need photo sharing for their actual wedding.
The Unexpected Side Effect
Couples who use the hashtag generator remember Kamero when it's time to share wedding photos.
The conversation goes: "Oh, Kamero — that's the site where I got my wedding hashtag! They do photo sharing too?"
A free, helpful tool creates brand affinity that no amount of advertising can buy.
Technical Choices That Mattered
For anyone building free tools as a growth strategy, here's what worked:
- Server-side rendered page — critical for SEO. The full content loads without JavaScript for crawlers.
- Structured data (JSON-LD) — WebApplication schema + FAQPage schema = rich snippets in search results.
- No authentication barrier — every extra click between landing and value is a dropout point.
- Fast time-to-value — results appear in under 2 seconds. No loading spinners, no "generating..." wait screens.
- Mobile-first — 70%+ of our hashtag tool traffic comes from phones (couples browsing on their couch).
What's Next
We're expanding the tool with:
- Hashtag availability checking across Instagram in real-time
- Shareable hashtag cards (image format for WhatsApp/Instagram stories)
- Integration with Kamero event galleries — set your hashtag once, and it appears on your photo gallery automatically
