How Much Herbicide Do You Actually Need? Coverage Guide

Herbicide coverage is calculated from three numbers: the treated area, the product’s dilution ratio, and the application rate per unit area — get any one of these wrong and you either run out mid-job or buy several times more product than the job actually requires. Say you’re treating 1,000 square meters with a product diluted at 1:50 and applied at a rate of 3 liters of diluted spray per 100 square meters. That’s 1,000 ÷ 100 × 3 = 30 liters of diluted spray needed. At a 1:50 dilution, that requires 30 ÷ 51 ≈ 0.6 liters of concentrate (since 1 part concentrate to 50 parts water means each liter of mix uses about 1/51 liters of concentrate).

Pro tip: Always round up your concentrate estimate by 10–15%. Uneven terrain, overlap between spray passes, and windy conditions all increase actual usage beyond the theoretical minimum — running short mid-job costs more time than a slightly oversized order.
