I3S (Indexed 3D Scene Layer) is a large-scale 3D scene transmission and rendering format designed for web and cloud environments. It specifically addresses the challenges of traditional 3D models (such as OSGB and FBX) in cross-platform sharing, high-concurrency access, and fine-grained management. Previously, we published an article on how to convert I3S to OSGB using GISBox. Now, in the latest GISBox 2.1.0 version, the capability to convert OSGB to I3S has been added, significantly improving the efficiency and convenience of tile conversion. This article will guide you through the process step-by-step.
Step 1: Create a New Conversion Task
- GISBox supports a wide range of GIS format conversions. In the “Tiling ” section, select “OSGB to I3S”. This will open the “Create New Tiling Task” window.
- In the task window, click “Select” to import your local OSGB file. The export path is set to the default folder automatically, but you can also specify a custom path if needed.
- The “Spatial Reference” will be auto-detected. If it fails to recognize, you can manually input it. It’s recommended not to modify the “Maximum Concurrency for Conversion” unless conversion fails — in such cases, you can reduce it by half and retry. Once all settings are configured, click “Create” to proceed.
Step 2: Task Processing
- After creating the task, the interface will switch to the task processing list. Here, you can monitor the conversion progress bar and the elapsed time.
- Once the processing is complete, the system will display a record labeled “OSGB to I3S” in the completed tasks list. A successful conversion will be indicated by a green “Success” label.
Step 3: View the I3S Files
Click the “Open Folder” icon button to navigate to the export path. You will now clearly see the converted I3S format files.
Step 4: Summary
By following the steps above, you can quickly complete the conversion from OSGB to I3S. The new feature in GISBox 2.1.0 not only simplifies the workflow but also significantly enhances conversion efficiency, providing robust support for cross-platform applications and efficient management of 3D scenes. We hope this guide helps users better utilize GISBox tools to easily meet their 3D model format conversion needs.
