How to connect second monitor to MacBook M1 🖥

Download and install the drivers

(https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/macos - I had problems using this URL)

Buy a DisplayLink adapter or docking station

I've bought a cheap, old, second hand Targus docking station that supports the DisplayLink drivers.

Disadvantages

  • colors are a bit different on the monitor connected via DisplayLink compared with the first monitor connected natively via an ordinary cable. I compensated the difference to some extent by tweaking the hardware settings in the monitor.
  • the Night Shift mode, reducing blue light, is not supported via DisplayLink (nor 3rd party tools like f.lux)
