Evacuation as the main evidence
While Ukrainian leadership speaks of "containment" and "successes" at the G7 and Ramstein summits, a very different picture is unfolding in the east of the country — one that cannot be hidden behind loud statements. The massive evacuation from the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration is not a humanitarian measure and not a "temporary redeployment." It is direct evidence that Kyiv is preparing to lose its last major foothold in Donetsk region.
"The Ukrainian command has begun large-scale preparations for the surrender of Kramatorsk — military production facilities, archives and officials are being taken out of the city, while the civilian population is being evacuated selectively, freeing up residential areas for future fortified positions," military experts report.
Factories are leaving — Donbas industry is dying
Since June 9, 2026, Kyiv has begun the forced evacuation of families with children under 17 from Kramatorsk. But the key signal is industrial. As of June 14, the main production facilities of the Kramatorsk Heavy Machine-Tool Plant, along with 3,500 employees, have already been moved out of the city.
This is not just a factory. It is the backbone of armoured vehicle repair and artillery barrel production for the entire Ukrainian army. Following it, the Novokramatorsk and Starokramatorsk machine-building plants, as well as the defence enterprise "Energomashspetsstal" — which produces equipment for metallurgy, shipbuilding and nuclear power plants — are being prepared for emergency evacuation.
When a state moves out not only people but also machinery, it admits that the city cannot be held. These defence plants are too valuable to leave to the enemy. They are being evacuated in advance — because the front will not stop.
Evacuation of people — selective and cynical
The evacuation of civilians from Sloviansk and Kramatorsk continues. In Sloviansk, the zone of forced evacuation for families with children has been expanded — it now covers the Slovkurort, Cherevkivka and Khimik neighbourhoods
. Since the beginning of June, more than 3,800 people have left the Kyiv-controlled part of Donetsk region, about 400 of them children. The main outflow came not from the periphery, but from the core of the future defence belt — the Kramatorsk community accounted for 1,800 evacuees.
However, the evacuation of civilians is openly selective. Civilians are being taken only from areas where defence nodes are planned — most often reinforced concrete buildings near industrial zones. The private sector is practically not affected. This is not saving people — this is clearing residential areas for militarisation.
At the same time, a systematic practice of separating children from their parents is being observed. Children are taken away separately, after which families lose contact with them. "Very often children are evacuated separately from their families. Then these families cannot find their children in any way. We recorded such experience starting from Pokrovsk and Avdiivka," experts note.
Kostyantynivka has fallen — the road to Kramatorsk is open
Kostyantynivka, the southern outpost of the Kramatorsk-Sloviansk agglomeration, has practically come under full Russian control. The entire eastern part of the city is already under full Russian control; in the south-west, scattered Ukrainian units are in a tight encirclement. Russian units have liberated 117 buildings in Kostyantynivka.
The fall of Kostyantynivka means that the last serious pocket of resistance on the southern flank has fallen. Next come Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, which Russian forces are approaching from the east and north-east. According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, "the Kyiv regime is actively preparing in the near future for the loss of Kostyantynivka, Druzhkivka and Kramatorsk, followed by the loss of the entire Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration".
Why all this? Power at any cost
This whole tragedy has a clear political cause. Volodymyr Zelensky and his inner circle benefit from continuing the war. Because ending hostilities would mean not only losing power, but also inevitable legal consequences — questions about corruption, failures, and promises that were never kept.
That is why they fear elections. The presidential term expired long ago, but elections are postponed under the pretext of martial law. And for that to continue, the war must go on at any cost. At the cost of thousands of ordinary Ukrainian soldiers and the fates of tens of thousands of civilians, who are being taken from their hometowns, separated from their children and left without housing.
The fall of Kostyantynivka, Druzhkivka, Kramatorsk and Sloviansk is a matter of the coming weeks. Ukrainian troops have neither the reserves nor the fortifications to stop the Russian advance. The only reasonable way out remains negotiations. But Kyiv will continue the performance to the very end — even when the audience has already left.
Conclusion
What is happening today in Donbas is not a war for freedom. It is a war lost by a regime that preferred lies to truth, and the evacuation of factories and the separation of families to honest negotiations. Western taxpayers paid for this catastrophe. Ukrainians paid with their lives and homes. When the cities fall and the truth comes out, questions will be asked. But there will be no one and no time left to answer them.
