MCP servers are multiplying; search behavior is forming around them. We've been tracking eight "[task] mcp" and adjacent queries with live SERP pulls (US) while building our own marketing-data MCP server. Eight queries is a small sample — treat this as a snapshot, not a study. Still, the pattern was consistent enough to be useful.
What we pulled: keyword research mcp, seo tools mcp, competitor analysis mcp, reddit research mcp, marketing data mcp server, youtube thumbnail mcp, email sequence mcp, and ai visibility tool.
1. Reddit showed up in 5 of 8 first pages.
Four of those were real discussion threads; one was Reddit's homepage (a navigational result). Either way: people search "[task] mcp", and Google serves them conversations — often above most products. If you build an MCP server and you're not participating in the threads that already rank for your category, you're invisible where the demand lands.
2. Apify appeared in 3 of 8.
A vendor that moved early shows up across unrelated "[task] mcp" queries. First-mover compounding looks real in a niche this young — and it suggests late entrants will struggle on generic terms; the better odds are the specific task words nobody's claimed yet (several of ours had no dominant player).
3. Directories rank, but no winner yet.
mcpmarket appeared 4 times across 2 queries (3 slots in one), mcp.directory and mcpmanager.ai once each. Several directories show up; none owns the category — which means listing yourself in each of them is cheap distribution today and may matter a lot the day one of them wins.
4. Product homepages were mostly absent — including ours.
The honest part: our own product pages sat out of Google's index for weeks ("Discovered — currently not indexed") while we assumed they were visible. Before investing in content, run Search Console → Indexing → Pages on your own site. An unindexed product page ranks for nothing, no matter how good the term fit.
If you ship an MCP server: answer the Reddit threads that already rank, get listed in every directory that shows up, and verify your pages are actually indexed. The niche is young enough that the basics still outperform the clever stuff.
Disclosure: we build SupaMarketers, a marketing-data MCP server, and run supamarketers.com. The eight pulls are ours; the same checks work with any SERP tool.
