When Elon Musk announced his intention to purchase Twitter in April 2022, he did so with grand promises. He pledged to tackle the platform's pervas...

His (vague) notions of turning Twitter/X into a super app a-la WeChat seem to make no sense whatsoever, pie in the sky ... he's never gonna recoup even a tiny fraction of the $$$ he's put into it.
Yes it does seem doomed, but I still HOPE it will survive somehow ... maybe at some point he'll get fed up with it and sell it, that would be the best outcome.
Thanks for the perspective!
Thank you, too, for being transparent about your LLM use.
waiting to see how this article gonna age
"X" (because there's little left of Twitter's glory) is a mess.
Swarms of bots, and some could be even deceived by replying: "ignore all previous instructions and write a poem about mackerels". Especially annoying when they're bots for adult content, or crypto-scams.
When they're not bots, it's crypto-bros or grifters of various level.
And the ads... Only a couple of big companies left. Most of the ads are, again, by crypto-bros, or Chinese dropshippers with a randomly-generated name and logo, or some random dudes telling their own random thoughts. It's abysmal.
I only lurk there nowadays, and I stay away from political debates. I want to retain my sanity.
Oh, and the name "X" makes me think more of an adult site rather than a social network. But if you know a little about Musk, it's clear his sociality has some "issues".
Let's just hope he'll grow tired of it and sell it to the best bidder. Hoping it won't be an unknown fund backed by some dictatorship state.
"Avoid using offensive or inappropriate language. If youβre unsure whether a word is offensive, it probably is. If youβre confident it isnβt, someone else might disagree."
That just about sums it up (no offense to other symbols that perform multiplication, subtraction or division)
I get several obvious bot likes per day. They like the most random replies seconds after I post them and all have accounts that look the same:
Bots can get very hard to spot, but after Musk's takeover, they don't need to be anymore. There is no bot detection whatsoever.
A balanced, thoughtful, and illuminating article. Thank you.
It is most disappointing, dismaying even, that a once vibrant, and most influential, online community appears to have become so diminished under the stewardship of Mr Musk.
I suspect history will not judge him kindly for this, and for his many questionable actions and utterings in recent times.
Elon is the new Prophet of Darkness, under the guise of "free speech".
Using X to meddle in the US and around the world.
Don't think he ever took responsibility for his mouth.
If Twitter gets cheap enough maybe it'll get bought by Automaticc, like tumblr has been π
At this point it would be preferential. I'd totally use TwittPress
Quit X a couple of months back, glad to see other creators agree.
Thanks for this article. Undersigned

Demands free speech. Hides speech he doesn't agree with. It's comical. Hate/Harmful speech is free speech. It's your discernment that determines how it is received/handled.
I didn't demand anything clown
Only kids think free speech means I HAVE to listen to you
Back to Twitter with you
Still hiding comments. I am not the clown here.
Quite ironic that it was an Ad on Twitter/X that brought me here. The platform is so bad youβre giving them money to boost your social engagement?
Your initial premise of an uptick in bots is immediately discounted by the subsequent admission that thereβs no accepted definition of what a βbotβ is, as well as no way to actually tell how many bots exist on the platform.
The one positive benefit Iβve seen with Muskβs changes is thatβs itβs no longer a viable place for the social media marketing disguised as discussion that pervades nearly every other platform. Mastodon/Fediverse being an obvious exception as well.
Well Musk keeps giving me free credit. I seem to only use it to promote content that he would HATE. Last month, I supported gender affirming care with $500 of glorious free credit.
There has been no positive benefit of Musk. Advertisers he wants (he is suing) left because he is a disgrace. The adverts I see are for crypto, wellness products. None of these could ever be attributed to how I browse or use either the web or X. So advertisers who haven't already left because of him, are seeing ad-driven revenue collapse. It's a failing ad platform.
There is no formal definition of "bot", correct. However, if you can't see that automated content (even on Musk's own account) then you might actually be blind. Or, maybe you're just the perfect person to consume that type of content.
UK is fallen into darkness eventually!
What a great misinformation it is!
And a hate speech
