Hosting the Cardano Summit in Delhi While the Crypto Market Was Burning

November 2022 was not a good month to ask people to come to a crypto event.

Terra-LUNA had collapsed in May and wiped out tens of billions. Celsius and Three Arrows Capital had fallen over the summer. Then, in November, FTX, one of the biggest exchanges in the world, collapsed in a matter of days. In India, a 30% tax on crypto gains and 1% TDS had just arrived.

Everyone I knew in crypto was either angry, scared or quietly leaving. That was the month I organised and hosted the Delhi edition of the Cardano Summit 2022 community events.

People sometimes ask me why. This is my answer.

The bigger picture

The Cardano Summit 2022 wasn't only one main event. Alongside it, official community-led events ran in more than 50 cities around the world, supported by the Cardano Foundation. Each one was organised by people from the local community.

I brought the Delhi edition to life.

The goal was simple: put builders, traders and newcomers in one room so they could meet, learn and build on Cardano together.

Why I didn't cancel

When the news is that bad, the easy thing is to wait. Wait for the market to recover, wait for the headlines to calm down, wait until people are excited again.

But I had been in crypto since 2011. I'd already lived through Mt. Gox in 2014, the long winter of 2018, and Black Thursday in 2020. One thing those years taught me is that bear markets are where real communities are built. In a bull market everybody shows up. In a bear market the noise disappears and so do most people. The ones who stay are the ones who actually care.

There's another reason, a more personal one.

Most of my learning in crypto happened alone, after midnight, with charts open and the house asleep. For years, explaining crypto to my own family was harder than trading it. Bear markets were lonely. Those quiet months taught me how much it matters to have people around you who understand.

So when the chance came to create that room for others, at the exact moment people needed it most, cancelling never felt right.

The challenge: giving people a reason to believe in builders, not prices

Getting people to show up for a crypto event in that climate meant changing the question. Nobody wanted to hear "number go up." They'd just watched numbers go down, hard.

So the focus had to be different:

  • Learning, not speculation. What is being built, and how does it work?
  • Building, not shilling. How can someone actually start building on Cardano?
  • People, not prices. Meet the others in your city who are still here.

It's the same rule I follow in everything I do: education over hype, safety over shortcuts.

What I did

My role was organiser and host. In practice that meant:

  1. Organising the Delhi community event as part of the official Cardano Summit 2022 community-led programme.
  2. Hosting the day, bringing builders, traders and newcomers together in one room.
  3. Keeping the focus on learning and building on Cardano, not on prices or predictions.

That sounds simple written down. Anyone who has organised a community event knows the reality: venue, schedule, people who confirm and don't come, people who come without confirming, technology that works perfectly until the moment you need it. That's part of the job, and honestly part of the fun.

The moment I still remember

There's one moment from that day I don't think I'll ever forget.

I was standing at the front of a room full of people who had come because they still believed in this space, in the same month the biggest exchange collapse in years was all over the news.

Looking at them, I remembered all the nights alone with my charts. All the times I wondered if I belonged in this market at all. The worried faces at home. The silence of the bear markets.

That moment made every hard year feel worth it. It's still one of my proudest moments: bringing people together while the market was broken.

What it taught me about community

1. Community is your real portfolio

Prices go up and down. Relationships built in hard times tend to last much longer than the ones built in a rally.

2. Show up when it's hard

Anyone can host a party in a bull market. Showing up in a bear market tells people who you really are. I think about that every time a project asks me to help with community growth: the best time to build trust is before you need it.

3. Keep it honest

When people are hurting, they can smell hype instantly. The only thing that works is honesty: here's what's being built, here's what we know, here's what we don't.

4. Bring different people together

The magic of that day was the mix: developers next to traders next to people who'd never used a wallet. Each group learned something from the others. Communities that only talk to themselves get stuck.

From one room in Delhi to communities everywhere

Today I work independently under my own name, with partners worldwide. Community is still at the heart of what I do:

  • I've hosted 18 X Spaces and joined 31 more as a speaker or guest.
  • I run my own trading community on Whop, rated 5.0★ from 27 reviews.
  • I teach crypto in Hindi and English on YouTube, Instagram and Telegram.
  • I plan, host and speak at meetups, community events and summits for projects that want to meet their users in person.

Every one of those started with the same lesson I learned in Delhi in November 2022: if you bring people together honestly, they show up, even when the market is on fire.

If you're planning an event

A few things I'd tell anyone organising a crypto community event:

  1. Decide who the room is for. Builders, traders, newcomers or all three? Shape the agenda around them.
  2. Make it about learning. People remember what they understood, not what they were sold.
  3. Mind safety. Remind attendees that nobody legitimate will ask for their seed phrase, and watch for scammers who target event attendees.
  4. Record and recap. The people who couldn't attend are your next community members.
  5. Follow up. The event is the start of the relationship, not the end.
