Obsidian took 3.77 s to show a note in a paired startup test. Rustidian took 0.61 s.
I built Rustidian because Obsidian was slow to start for me, even after I tried to optimize it. Speed and efficiency are its operating principle: a native Markdown notebook in Rust, with no Electron and no account. It opens your ordinary Markdown folders as they are.
What you get today
- Wiki links, backlinks, tags, aliases, properties and bookmarks
- A graph of your notes
- Tables, callouts, images, syntax highlighting and Mermaid diagrams
- Live editing, source and reading modes
- Linux: a .deb package or a portable archive
Coming next
- LaTeX math that renders as you type
- An Agent tab that runs Claude Code, Codex or Elpis in a terminal beside your notes, inside your vault folder
Try it
Install it from the README in one command, open a copy of your vault, and see how fast a note can open.
If speed matters to you, star it on GitHub: it helps other people find it. Contributors are welcome.
