Hello world! My name is Abdul Mateen, and I am excited to share that I am applying for Google Summer of Code 2026 with the Open Astronomy organization.
Specifically, I am aiming to work on the "Spectral timing in Julia" project. Recently, I have been diving deep into the Python stingray codebase and strategizing the best approach for its Julia translation. My proposal focuses heavily on the covariance spectra implementation, which is a fascinating challenge.
To get familiar with the organization's workflow, I recently submitted my first patch to Stingray.jl (PR #77). I added an explicit import for fftfreq in runtests.jl to help stabilize the CI pipeline across different environments. It was a great learning experience to fulfill the Git workflow requirement and get hands-on with the codebase.
I am looking forward to the rest of the GSoC process and the opportunity to contribute more to the open-source astronomy community!
