Text work is mostly small interruptions: a list that needs deduping, a heading that has to become a URL slug, a paragraph pasted out of Word carrying three kinds of invisible whitespace. None of it deserves an app, an account or an upload to someone else's server.
We built the Text & Content category on Utility Tools Lab for exactly these moments. It has 87 free tools, each doing one job and then getting out of your way. Here are the groups I reach for most, with the details that make them useful.
Clean up messy text
Whitespace Remover
Strip all spaces, collapse extras, convert tabs, or clear blank lines.
Paragraph Formatter
Remove extra spaces and blank lines, trim every line, or join everything into one paragraph.
Text Cleaner
Ten combinable filters strip HTML tags, emoji, URLs, emails, punctuation, digits and stray whitespace.
Emoji Remover
Strip emoji, pull them out on their own, or swap each for a tag. It treats ZWJ families, flags and skin tones as a single glyph rather than many, which is the part naive regexes get wrong.
Duplicate Remover
Keep the first copy, keep the last, or discard every entry that appears more than once. The last mode is a quick way to find the lines that are not repeated.
Line Counter
Counts total, empty, non-empty, unique and duplicate lines at once, then gives you a deduplicated version to paste elsewhere.
Transform and reshape
Case Converter
UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case and Sentence case, plus the code-friendly camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case and kebab-case.
Slug Converter
Turn any text into a clean URL slug with hyphen, underscore or dot separators. It handles accented characters.
Text Sorter
Sort lines A-Z, Z-A, by length or in reverse, shuffle them, or extract unique lines.
Text Separator
Join lines into a delimited string or split delimited text back into lines, using comma, pipe, tab, semicolon, space or a custom delimiter. It's very handy for turning a column of IDs into a SQL IN (...) list.
Text Wrapper
Word wrap or hard wrap at any column width, with presets from 40 to 120 characters and an option to break long words.
Column Formatter
Align every line to a fixed width with left, right or centre padding, plus optional borders for code comment blocks or README tables.
Text Reverser, Text Repeater and Line Numbering
Small tools for flipping text four ways, repeating a string N times with a chosen separator, and adding line numbers with custom start, step, prefix and padding.
Text Shuffler
Shuffles words, lines, characters or sentences with a Fisher-Yates algorithm. You can set a seed to get reproducible results, which is useful for test fixtures.
Compare and search
Text Diff
Compare two blocks of text side by side, with added, removed and unchanged lines highlighted.
Find & Replace
Supports regex, case-sensitive and replace-all modes.
Two nearby tools from other categories pair well with these: the Regex Tester (live matches, capture groups and a plain-English token breakdown) and the JSON Diff Checker (structural comparison that reports added, removed or retyped keys by path).
Encoding and conversion
Text ↔ Base64
Full Unicode handling and a live readout of encoding overhead.
Text ↔ Binary
Converts to 8-bit groups and back, with strict validation that catches malformed bytes before they corrupt your output.
Text ↔ Hex
Uppercase hex bytes with space, comma, 0x or no separator, and it parses pasted hex dumps back into readable text.
URL Encode
Choose between encodeURI, encodeURIComponent or raw percent-encoding, with a character reference table. If you have ever wondered which one to use, having them side by side answers it.
String Escape
Escape and unescape strings for HTML, JavaScript and URL contexts, in both directions.
ASCII Table
Look up any of the 256 ASCII and Latin-1 characters by decimal, hex, octal or binary.
Number to Words and Roman Numerals
Numbers to English words, ordinals or currency text (up to 999 trillion), and integers 1 to 3999 to Roman numerals and back.
Placeholder text in 20 languages
This category has a Lorem Ipsum generator covering 20 languages, plus dedicated pages for each: English, Bangla, Hindi, Arabic, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Swahili and more.
Why bother? Because English filler hides real layout bugs. Arabic and Persian are right-to-left. Hindi, Bengali and Korean use scripts whose line heights and glyph widths differ from Latin text. Chinese and Japanese have no spaces between words, which changes how lines wrap. If your layout only ever sees "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet", you won't find out it breaks until a real user hits it.

Just for fun
Morse Code plays your message as 600 Hz audio, with a 51-character table and translation in either direction. NATO Alphabet spells strings as Alpha Bravo Charlie code words. Palindrome shows a character mirror diff and the longest palindromic substring. ASCII Art offers five bundled fonts. Text Cipher covers Caesar, ROT13, Atbash and Vigenère, but these are for puzzles and teaching, not for protecting anything real. There's also Avro Bangla Typing, where ami becomes আমি live as you type.

What's the small text task you repeat most often? Mine is turning a column of values into a comma-separated list.
