I Didn’t Pass Maths at School. Here’s How I Fixed It as an Adult in Just 3 Weeks

I Didn’t Pass Maths at School. Here’s How I Fixed It as an Adult in Just 3 Weeks
Life doesn’t always go to plan, especially when it comes to education. I didn’t pass my GCSE Maths, and for years, that one missing qualification quietly held me back from applying to jobs, apprenticeships, and even university courses. Then I discovered Functional Skills Maths Level 2, and it changed everything.
With the right support and fast-track options at Intech Centre, I went from stuck to certified in just 3 weeks.

What is Functional Skills Maths Level 2?
A Recognised Equivalent to GCSE Maths
Functional Skills Maths Level 2 is an Ofqual-approved, City & Guilds qualification that is equivalent to a GCSE Grade C/4. It’s accepted by employers, universities, and apprenticeships across the UK. What makes it ideal is that it focuses on real-world problem-solving, not school-theory repetition.
You can choose to take your exam either online or in person at Intech Centre’s London-based exam centre.

Why I Chose Intech Centre
Centre-Based or Online Exams (Same Certification)
Intech Centre offers full flexibility:
• In-centre Functional Skills Maths exam
• Online Functional Skills Maths exam
Both are City & Guilds-accredited, run every week, and results are issued within 20 working days. Their team is responsive, friendly, and helped me choose the format that best suited my schedule.

My 3-Week Learning Plan
Self-Paced Course with Tutor Support
I joined Intech’s Private Functional Skills Maths Course — a structured, 2-month online course that included weekly tutor guidance, diagnostic assessments, and mock tests.
Here’s how I used it:
• Week 1 – Diagnostic + Number topics (fractions, percentages, ratios)
• Week 2 – Measurement, shapes, and everyday problem-solving
• Week 3 – Mock papers + focused feedback from tutor
The course was surprisingly easy to follow and taught with adult learners in mind.

Exam Day Experience
Quick, Digital, and Comfortable
I sat the in-centre Functional Skills Maths exam in London. The exam lasted 1 hour 45 minutes and included two sections: a non-calculator paper and a calculator paper. Everything was computer-based, well-invigilated, and ran smoothly.
For anyone who can’t travel, the online exam option is fully remote and monitored securely.

Why Functional Skills Was the Right Choice
I had one goal: get qualified quickly, affordably, and legitimately. Intech Centre gave me all three. I didn’t need to retake my GCSE. I didn’t need to go back to college. I just needed a clean, focused path, and that’s what Functional Skills Maths delivered.
This qualification opened up opportunities for me that I couldn’t access before, and I now recommend it to anyone who needs to prove their maths skills.
