Passive income is not really fixed; in a blog, you might only write one article in a month and make a lot of money; whereas in the previous months where you wrote 5 articles in a month and did not make as much.

1. Get a professional Job

This is one of the most popular ways of making money as a developer. To get a professional job you need to have some level of proficiency in your skills, and you must have a profile(maybe LinkedIn) or portfolio to showcase what you are really capable of. Then, what you have to do is check out different online platforms to get a Job such as LinkedIn and etc.

2. Blogging

As developers, we are often used to reading documentation, blog posts, articles, and so on; why not consider writing your own? Blogging is a way to teach or share experiences as a developer and it makes a lot of money. What you need to do is get your English writing skills in check or download a writing extension, like Grammarly which will correct your spelling, punctuation and etc. Then, try blogging on platforms like Medium, and hashnode and build an audience; that you can monetize in several ways like affiliate marketing, ads, and so on.

3. Freelancing

This means doing small jobs for different people or clients around the world. As previously said earlier, you will need some level of proficiency in your discipline and you must have a profile or portfolio; so that people can trust you to do jobs for them. To Get started check out freelancing platforms like Fiverr and Freelancer.

4. Create a YouTube channel

This is like blogging but the main difference is that instead of writing blog posts you create videos. This can be overwhelming at first, but if you really master it, you will like it, and you can make a lot of money from it. To get started, create a YouTube channel, and to start making money you must have 1000subs and 4000 watch hours in the last 12 months. Make sure you have a proper microphone for your videos or else the quality of your video will go down.

This is slightly different from running a YouTube channel; the difference is that you create a special set of videos about a particular topic and sell and market it. Platforms to sell and create courses are Udemy, skillshare and etc.

6. Create and sell digital products

This means creating valuable products such as bootstrap components, WordPress plugins, etc, and selling them on platforms like Envato. This is a passive income stream and it can make you a lot of money.

7. Coding Contest

Every year there are paid coding competitions that are carried out; so find them out and participate.

8. Ebooks

You can take a particular topic, research it properly and write an e-book on it; then, you can release your e-book on amazon. E-books can really make a lot of money if marketed well like over ten thousand dollars.

Other ways include
