This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 4: Ghost in the Machine
What I Built
Study Buddy is a Flutter app for students who are stuck on a page. You snap a photo of a textbook page, handwritten notes or a diagram, and the app:
- Explains it step by step in plain language
- Generates quiz questions from the same material
- Saves them as flashcards for later revision
I built it with Pakistani university students in mind: [add your real reason, e.g. exam-heavy semesters, notes shared as photos, limited data].
The theme: [Your interpretation, e.g. every notebook is a ghost of the student who wrote it, and Study Buddy lets those old pages speak again.]

How I Built It
- Frontend: Flutter / Dart
- Model: Gemma ([variant], served [locally / via Google AI / other provider])
- Flow: photo → Gemma explains step by step → second prompt returns quiz questions as structured output → saved as flashcards
- Storage: [what you actually used]
- Hardest part: [one honest challenge, e.g. messy handwriting or diagrams]
Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
[Your real answer. Open-weight Gemma lets you choose the model size, control the prompts and not depend on one closed API. Add what mattered for students: cost, privacy of their notes, patchy connectivity. Say where it beat a closed option.]
