What I Built
AI Garden Planner is a smart gardening application that helps users decide what to plant based on their location, local weather conditions, and seasonal growing patterns. Users can view their location on a map, check the current date and weather forecast, and receive personalized planting recommendations and gardening tasks for the week.
The goal is to make gardening easier for beginners and encourage people to spend less time on screens and more time outdoors.
How I Built It
The application uses React and Tailwind CSS for the frontend, Node.js and Express for the backend, and PostgreSQL for data storage. Leaflet and OpenStreetMap provide location visualization, while weather data helps determine suitable growing conditions.
An open-weight AI model will power personalized planting recommendations, explaining what to plant and how to care for it. The project aims to support offline access to saved gardening plans so users can follow their recommendations even when they are outside without an internet connection.
Why Open Innovation Matters
Open-source AI makes the project more flexible, customizable, and accessible. Using open-weight models provides the freedom to experiment with different models, customize gardening recommendations, and explore local inference without depending entirely on proprietary AI APIs.
My goal is to build a practical tool that connects technology with nature and makes gardening more accessible to everyone.
