Cybersec Hobby

My gig work leaves me extremely bored, so I've been doing a lot of labs on tryhackme, solved around 580 labs. I had become #1300 globally.

Though now they changed the profile page, showing top 1% and so on, I'm not particularly fond of the new profile look. Before you could right away see your global rank, rooms solved etc.

You can see my daily grind started around half way last year:

my tryhackme grind

Roughly tryhackme has 3 parts, blue rooms (defense), red rooms (ethical hacking) and purple rooms (mixed). I think doing this many rooms give you a general idea of cybersec, a lot of concepts and some chops, but it doesn't necessarily make you an elite hacker or something.

Though it started to seem more of the same, or a bit to far fetched (something in an audio stream, in a stenography coded, in base64 scenario) instead of a realistic scenario.

I had been doing some htb, but it's a bit to time consuming with the gig work that I have to do. So lately I've been doing cyberdefenders, so far I like it. The threat intelligence labs and network labs seem to take only 30 minutes, so easy to do in a little break. The threat intelligence labs uses a lot of the typical sites, like virustotal, any.run, and others. The network labs use pcap files for wireshark investigation.

I've also been doing network practice as it's been a while that I did more than just pc to server or pc to pc.

Overall I think my tech skills are growing, mainly in networking and cybersec area. I don't have any particular goal in mind with it, just curing boredom I guess.
