Yeah I used the opportunity to start with a brand new install - purging a decade of migrated Mac OS cruft and gremlins in the process. I just made a copy of the old Mac SSD onto an external Samsung T5 SSD, and whenever I needed anything, I'd copy it over manually from there.
Mac migration is one of the stellar features of this operating system, you're back up and running in no time at all. That's great. But a heavily used developer install will necessarily build up some debris over a decade, even on OS X.
