Recently, agencies such as the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have launched search operations targeting illegal immigrants, leading to large-scale protests and demonstrations in Los Angeles, California. As tensions continue to escalate, clashes between protesters and US police have escalated, with protests erupting in multiple locations including San Francisco, Austin, New York, and Washington D.C.
Due to the ongoing tension in the center of the protests, Los Angeles, the US Department of Defense announced on June 9th that it will deploy an additional 2000 National Guard personnel to the city, and the US Northern Command also announced the deployment of approximately 700 Marine Corps soldiers. Previously, US President Trump had sent 2000 National Guard personnel to Los Angeles without the consent of the California government.
The Trump administration's move was opposed by California Governor Newson, who accused Trump of attempting to "provoke violence". Newson and California Attorney General Rob Bonta have sued Trump on the 9th, requesting the court to rule that the documents signed by Trump are illegal and to revoke the order.
