Tip-toeing into cloud-native technology can feel a little daunting, especially when you’re the only one in your organization who’s been assigned that task. Because when we’re newbies at something we all could use a little bit of support, right? It may be in the form of guidance or finding a group of people following the same path as you. With this idea in mind, Cloud App Developers was created, and the main reason why Napptive has decided to sponsor and support this community.

Cloud App Developers describes itself as: “a community for enthusiasts of cloud-native technologies, where we will share knowledge, and support developers in their professional growth. Our mission is to create a community where we can share best practices related to the development of cloud-native applications and technologies, via meetups, webinars, and posts where you will find relevant information for your development.”

The idea is to create a community based on these three tenets:

Open: We want everyone to participate. We encourage members and their colleagues to send us talks or blog contributions. We will help disseminate and amplify your stories!
Focused on developers: We are a developer community, by developers, for developers, and vendor-neutral. This is a place to learn and share best practices and knowledge.
Cloud-oriented: Whether it’s Azure, AWS, or Google… we don’t care. We are united in our love for all things cloud!

Cloud-native communities

As the proverb says, “If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together.” We can all benefit from the support of a community of like-minded people. Think about receiving learning opportunities, making contacts, implementing best practices from the start, asking for advice from the right people, and much more. Well, here’s how you can do it:

Join their Substack and have all the info sent straight into your inbox, keeping you up to date with events, articles, tutorials…
Follow them on Twitter, Youtube, and Linkedin.
Join the conversations on Discord.
Naturally, we also encourage all members to foster a culture of collaboration. You can help expand the knowledge and tools that shape cloud-native technologies by sending your ideas to hello@cloudappdevs.org.

Cloud-native events

We know nothing beats the sense of togetherness and the opportunities that meeting in person brings. That’s why Cloud App Developers are committed to hosting live events as much as possible, while also giving the opportunity to attend online to people who can’t make it to the venue.

Past events

Cloud App Developers launched their first-ever event just a month shy of creating the community from scratch.

It took place last November 10th at the Madrid Innovation Lab. For those who didn’t get the chance to see it, here is the link to the recording.

November Meetup

Álvaro Agea & Paola Pardo kicked off the event by talking about “Data Analytics and Kubernetes” where they gave an intro into what Kubernetes is, explained how to understand its storage capacities, and finally demoed how to extract Data Analytics from GitHub in a cloud-native way.

Finally, Manuel Morejón, closed the meetup with a fascinating take for those who are starting to delve into cloud-native technologies, explaining the intricacies of Kubernetes, how it differs from Docker, and best practices for those starting with these technologies.

Upcoming event

The next live event will be on December 14th at 19h CET and this time around it will be totally online.

Vicente Herrera will talk about “Pod Security Standards”. We believe it’s a talk greatly suited to those who want to begin learning about security in K8s, as it replaces the former Pod Security Policies, and he will demonstrate how to migrate from PSP to PSS.

Juan G. Carmona will talk about “Azure DevOps and Azure Pipelines” to showcase what a powerful tool it is in automating the integration and continuous deployment of all types of software development, looking at basic concepts and real use cases.
