If you’re like any normal mobile gamer and are tired of the free-to-play and ad-supported games on your iPhone then you must be fully aware of constantly nagging ads that pop-up during Gameplay. One minute you’re playing a difficult level and as soon as you attempt to replay that difficult level again, random ads like Buy & Sell Cars, Bikes and Auto Parts appear out of nowhere and destroy the entire user experience. Granted that those games might be free but it’s still nagging nevertheless. The new soon to be launched service by Apple, ‘Apple Arcade’ may solve your problem and bring an end to all of this.
For starters, the Apple Arcade has been developed with an enormous partnership between Apple and game developers. If the company uses the typical subscription model based on sharing revenue with creators based on ‘share of attention’ towards the game. It would be only logical that more and more game studios will want to become a part of this new gaming service considering Apple has a massive consumer market throughout the globe in over 150+ countries owing to its premium hardware and robust eco-system.
The release of such gaming service on App store could be the potential death of all the current games and game developers that work independently on the App store, considering Apple might give special privileges to its partners (in Apple Arcade) and users would most probably opt for such high-quality games at a better price point.
Apple Arcade backed up by a strong team of developers
The new Apple Arcade will be more like a partnership between game developers and Apple where the company will actively work with developers to create new and exclusive games for its gaming service. The good news is several high-profile creators such as Hironobu Sakaguchi, Ken Wong, and Will Wright have already signed up with Apple while studios like Annapurna Interactive, Bossa Studios, Cartoon Network, Finji, Giant Squid, Klei Entertainment, Konami, LEGO (creator of Lego Brawls), Mistwalker Corporation, SEGA (creator of Sonic Racing), Snowman, and Ustwo games (creator of Monument Valley) are already developing new games for the Apple Arcade.
When will Apple Arcade be launched?
The new gaming service by Apple is expected to launch this fall with over a hundred new and exclusive games. These games will be compatible with all Apple devices including iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac. Something to be excited for the Apple product owners is that the Apple Arcade is exclusively for the iOS users, unlike Google’s upcoming Stadia which will be available for everyone.
Apple Arcade tied with Apple hardware
An interesting thing to note is Apple is adamant on keeping its services only exclusive to its iOS users. In a time where smartphone sales are going down due to market maturity which has badly affected Apple’s stock in recent past, one might think that Apple is now entering the software service provider market to regain its overwhelming influence.
An obvious thing to do would be to opt for a business model similar to Google where the software service providers allow maximum expansion of its services so that new consumers can be a part of it which would, in turn, generate more revenue for the company providing the services. Apple, however, remains adamant on tying its software services strictly to its hardware products. Only time will tell whether this decision will prove to be fruitful or not for the Cupertino giant.
