Force HTTPS on your small business site (kill the "Not secure" warning)

If someone types yourdomain.com without https, many hosts still serve the old HTTP version. Chrome then shows Not secure in the address bar — and a lot of visitors bounce before they even read your headline.

The 5-minute fix

  1. In your host panel (Netlify, Vercel, Cloudflare, cPanel, etc.) turn on Force HTTPS / Always use HTTPS.
  2. Or add a redirect rule: any request to http:// → 301 to the matching https:// URL.
  3. Optional but good: enable HSTS so browsers remember to use HTTPS next time.

Quick check

Open an incognito window and visit http://yourdomain.com (with the http). It should land on https:// with no warning.

Bonus

Make sure your sitemap, Google Business listing, and email signatures all use the https links — mixed old http links confuse search engines.
