Moana was a hit for being one of the few Polynesian tales in Disney. It showed the world diverse myths and stories. Eight years later, the team's effort to explore beyond Western stories is celebrated.

The sequel, Moana 2, opened on July 27. It follows Moana as she faces a new enemy and a major crisis. She is joined by Maui and other allies from her village.

Moana is destined to lead her tribe after her father. She is tasked with leading Polynesian regiments across the ocean. The gods want her to remember the traditions and unity of her people.

<Moana 2 introduces a new villain, Nalo, and moves faster than the first. New allies include farmer Kele, ship engineer Loto, and historian Moni. Heihei the chicken and Pua the pig also return.

Maui and Kakamora join Moana to defeat Nalo. They aim to reclaim their home from Nalo. The story symbolizes the Polynesian crisis and their desire for unity.

Polynesian experts were consulted for the sequel. The film explores the Moana tribe's rituals and their connection to the sea. It also touches on the desire for a multi-tribal federation.

“Moana 2 is inspired by Pacific Island communities,” said co-director Dana Redu Miller. The film's story was inspired by a meeting place in the Pacific Ocean.

The film features new songs, including “How Far I'll Go.” Grammy Award winners contributed to the score. The songs symbolize each character's journey.
