While not a GitHub Repo I found Harvard CS50 course an awesome way to break the ice on computer science. Professor Malan is entertaining and energetic and if you opt to do the projects I found them to be a great learning tool.

Oh yeah Prof. Malan is a charming guy while teaching, and yes I had that in my mind, thanks for pointing this out. While I was completely beginner I really thought someone should have told me all that. :D
