Opening The Island - OpenTelemetry and The Future of Observability with Austin Parker
In this episode, Austin Parker, Principal Developer Advocate at Lightstep, talks about OpenTelemetry, an observability framework for cloud-native software that is a collection of tools, APIs, and SDKs. You use it to instrument, generate, collect, and export telemetry data (metrics, logs, and traces) for analysis in order to understand your software's performance and behavior.
He also tells Jonan how he started/threw together Deserted Island DevOps during the height of the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, and how overwhelmingly successful and loved it was. DIDevOps was a single-day virtual event that was livestreamed on Twitch this past April. All presentations took place in the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the event pulled ~15,000 unique viewers on the day of the conference alone!
