🌌 Introducing GitGalaxy: Turn Your GitHub Profile Into a Living 3D Galaxy

Most GitHub profile viewers show repositories as a list.

I thought:

What if repositories were planets? What if developers had their own galaxy?

That's how GitGalaxy was born.

✨ What is GitGalaxy?

GitGalaxy is an interactive 3D platform that visualizes GitHub profiles as entire star systems.

  • ⭐ GitHub Profile → Star
  • 🪐 Repositories → Orbiting Planets
  • 🔍 Search any GitHub username
  • 🌌 Add profiles to the galaxy
  • 🔗 Share your galaxy with others
  • 💻 Embed it into portfolios and projects

Instead of scrolling through repositories, you can explore them in a more immersive and visual way.

🛠️ Why I Built It

Developer profiles often contain a lot of interesting work, but the experience of browsing them is usually static.

I wanted to experiment with:

  • 3D web experiences
  • Creative data visualization
  • GitHub API integration
  • Interactive portfolio concepts

The goal was to make exploring code feel more like exploring a universe.

⚡ Challenges

Some interesting challenges while building GitGalaxy:

  • Converting GitHub repository data into a meaningful planetary system
  • Managing 3D object positioning and movement
  • Keeping performance smooth with multiple profiles loaded
  • Designing a UI that feels futuristic without sacrificing usability

🔮 Future Ideas

A few features I'm considering:

  • Repository activity-based planet animations
  • Contribution constellations
  • Team and organization galaxies
  • Galaxy snapshots and exports
  • More customization options

🌌 Try It Yourself

I'd love feedback from fellow developers.

If you could visualize one aspect of your coding journey as a planet, star, or galaxy feature, what would it be?
